Watnots Drama - Funtime!
Drama for children

Watnots Drama was set up by Sarah Watney  (BA Honours in Dramatic Arts from Leeds university, acting diploma from Mountview Threat School and seven years professional acting experience).  Since leaving the stage herself, Sarah has worked as a drama workshop leader for companies such as The Polka Theatre in Wimbledon, The Bridewell theatre, London and The Music House in Shepherds Bush. She has taught in hundreds of schools across the country and is an excellent drama teacher for children aged 3-16 years although she mainly works within the primary sector.
She is known to have an amazing affinity with children.

They love her and she loves and relates to them.

One of the most important aspects of Watnots drama is that the kids have
fun. All too often stage schools become too pressured too young and Watnots drama believes that drama should be fun!

Watnots drama run after-school drama clubs for children aged 3-11.  At
Watnots there is a strong emphasis on encouraging the children to use
their imaginations and natural creative ability.  This coupled with teaching
them drama and performance skills makes for a varied and exciting package.

Each week the club will include aspects of these two disciplines:

Creativity: we encourage the children to use their imaginations, make
up characters, improvise scenes, create stories and bring poetry to life.
Children love to be free to create and use their ideas, gently guided by the
teacher rather than being told what to do, what to say and where to stand!  The children perform at the end of the summer term and autumn term but the spring term is left open for lots of wonderful creative work, which the children love.

Performance: Performing is fun and we want to keep it as unpressurised
as possible.  All the children get an equal opportunity to shine and we try
to stay away from asking the children to learn too many lines.  Our aim is to
keep the rehearsal process as creative as possible at all times, the process
being as important as the performance.   However performance does have great value offering the children the opportunity to grow in courage, boldness,
confidence, concentration, listening skills, memory and team work.

The Mission statement:

"To create a safe space where children can have fun expressing
themselves through drama, movement and music."

Safe Space:  In an increasingly dangerous world it is important that
parents and children feel safe and happy about being with us.

Have fun!  One of our main priorities is that the children have fun!

Expressing themselves:  In a busy and pressurized world, children need a place where they are able to express themselves and be creative.  There
is little time for this kind of activity at school and so we want to offer the
children a forum where they can experiment and be creative at Watnots drama.

Drama, movement and music:  There are no wrong answers in the arts so
everyone is a winner.

Drama:
Through drama children discover a lot about themselves and the way others live through acting out other people's stories.  It can be very therapeutic to experience being  "someone else" for a while and drama develops skills in confidence, self-esteem and emotional awareness.

Movement  is a wonderful release.  No need for language you can let yourself go, expressing yourself through your body rather than having to use your brain too much!!   Improves the children's rhythm and coordination skills.   Movement is also a great way to release energy after a long day at school.

Music is therapy to the soul!!  It lifts and energises you.  Hearty and
enthusiastic singing helps let go of the worries of the day and is such
up-beat fun.  Quieter music calms and relaxes the children.  Music creates
atmosphere in the classes and helps bring the drama to life.

are growing in confidence, developing speech and drama skills and in turn
growing in their self-esteem.

Drama Parties
Devised by Sarah, these increasingly popular parties are available at
only £50 an hour.  Rather than the children being entertained, they become
the entertainment.  The party will be based around a well-loved theme such
as Peter Pan. The children play games relating to the story, become the different
characters from the story, sing songs, and act out scenes.  They have
great fun and get to do some drama at the same time!
